For products that come in multiple colors or designs, it is always better to showcase them on the collection page, so the site visitors are aware that there are varieties to choose from. There's a way of doing it, that is, you can show color swatches on the collection page, however, this implementation allows you to show color variants as separate products. That way, customers would be able to see all the color variants on the collection page and still be able to change the selected color on the product page.
